Adventures in Speed Dating for Community

Come mingle with others to find a match made in efficiencies!
In this session we will meet the humans around us to find out two things:

What can we offer, and what do we need?

Speed Dating for Community was born of our River’s love for efficiencies, and love of community. We will use this hour to practice relating to our networks in a way that might help us to become more sustainable, more connected, and to have more meaningful interactions within our communities.

We will work with two questions.

1. What do you LOVE doing and what would you offer your community freely?

We focus on what you would love doing so that it doesn’t cost you anything to offer that service to others.
This could look like many different things: do you like to teach music? can you walk a dog or watch someone’s child? Can you hang a shelf? Do you know how to fix computers? Can you move heavy things? Can you identify herbs? Are you a good listener?

2. And our second question - What would take your life to the next level?

We ask this because often folks have a hard time thinking that they really need anything. But what would be nice to have in your life, what would help you achieve greater ease?
Someone to talk to? A new bike? A physiotherapist to consult? Guitar lessons? A studio to dance in? Anything!

Come experience meeting others on a whole different level, experience the joy of bing able to offer others what you love giving, and perhaps the beauty of the ease in which our community can support us.

Facilitator Bio:

She spends her days building community, producing events, gravel biking, and chasing bugs. She has studied Political Science, Theatre, Event Management, Project Management, Aboriginal Community Administration, the Art of Nonsense and the Science of Faffery.

Efficiencies turn her crank and she delights in dedicating her life in finding ways to bringing more holistic and more effective systems to community models.

Art of Lamp

Come learn of the great mystery of Lamp. Leave with more questions than answers.
What is an Art? What is Lamp? What makes a good Lamp? What makes a good Lamper? Most importantly… How can YOU Lamp-art-ake? Come to this thrilling presentation to find answers to all of these pressing questions, and more!

Authentic Relating

Learn transformative communications skill and dive into the 5 practices of Authentic Relating.
Authentic Relating is a space where one can reveal their truth, and be truly vulnerable. It's an opportunity to practice how to listen to another deeply and to be heard deeply, to see and be seen. It is revealing what comes up in the present moment with another, beyond the norms of social interaction. Doing so has the capability of bringing forth rich, revealing, nourishing, and engaging experiences with other humans.

To set the container I will go over the 5 practices of Authentic Relating: Welcome Everything, Assume Nothing, Reveal Your Experience, Own Your Experience, and Honour Self + Other.

Then expect to play a unique mix of relating games that involve sharing and listening in groups of 2-5 people and sometimes up to the whole group

Facilitator Bio:

Robbie has been facilitating Authentic Relating and Circling groups for 3+ years, primarily in the Victoria area. He has taken level 1 + 2 trainings with Authentic Relating Training International.

With a live DJ set flowing through a range of ambient to bassy and danceable beats, this session invites you to connect to community and yourself as you get a full body tune-up and tune-in. Bring a yoga mat if you can!

Carrying the Lamp: Integration of your Experience

Join your group from the beginning of the weekend for a guided integration practice!
Part 2: Carrying the Lamp: Integration of your experience will be an experiential workshop that is designed to be a follow-up to the Preparation Workshop described above. This workshop will start with a brief talk on integration of altered state and peak experiences. We will then draw on the practices and processes taught in the previous workshop to provide a structure for participants to reconnect to their intentions and explore what each individual received from their festival experience and how they may choose to carry it forward. Particular attention will be given to helping metabolize and make meaning from experiences, as well as consideration to how experiences can be kept alive, furthered and where appropriate shared with others.

The group structure that will be modelled in these two workshops is a simple and effective structure for facilitating groups of this nature involving information sharing, skill building, and group sharing. By participating in these workshops attendees will experientially learn this group process that they can then use to engage in similar groups in their own communities.

Please note that these two workshops are intended for individuals to participate in both sessions and folkx are strongly encouraged to attend both sessions. In fact, attendance at the Preparation Workshop will be a requirement for attendance at the Integration Workshop in order to maintain the strength and integrity of the group container.

Consent Culture and Empowered Negotiations

Learn about affirmative consent and why it's so important!
Learn about affirmative consent and why it's so important! We take a look at the five key components of consent as we tend to view it in kink/sex positive circles, and compare that with the legal definition of consent in Canada as per the criminal code. We discuss how the principles of consent can be applied outside of the bedroom to foster a wider culture of respectful interaction.

We spend some time getting more comfortable in asking for consent, and lastly we take a shallow dip into negotiated exceptions to our previously defined best practices: discussing agreements in ongoing relationship dynamics, ways to obtain consent without interrupting the thrill of flirtation, terms like "Consensual Non-Consent," and other ways mature adults sometimes agree to bend the rules.

Integration Circle

A welcoming space for attendees to gather and share their experience.
The Integration Circle provides a supportive, non-judgmental place for attendees to gather and share about how they are experiencing the event. Especially for those having a challenging time processing emotions, the circle provides an opportunity to be heard by a trained professional in a group of peers who have agreed to a set of guidelines established in the name of safety and support. The organizer will set down agreements around confidentiality, consent, and safe conduct at the beginning of the circle to ensure that it is a safe place to be witnessed in one's authenticity. Attendees may seek input from the organizer or from other attendees, but may also request no feedback and simply be heard and held in unconditional positive regard.
